How far is too far to travel for work?

When planning a holiday the world is your oyster. Depending on your needs and wants for a holiday most people will be prepared to travel any distance for that perfect experience. Do you feel the same when it comes to work?

Having lived in the North East of England for the majority of my life I can't believe how accessible it is to everything, in my opinion, of what you need. Now that I work in the city centre and the venue we sell is in the perfect location for locals and those who are travelling to our city.

Newcastle has fantastic train links with a direct train from London Kings cross taking less than 3 hours. These LNER trains are a great way to sit back relax and catch up on some emails during your journey - using your time effectively. Northumbria University has partnered with LNER to offer conference organisers up to a 30% discount on train tickets for their delegates. If you use Newcastle as a hub you are only an hour and a half away from Edinburgh and York depending if you are going North or South.

But distance is not a factor when the end destination is worth it and for me, Newcastle is always worth the visit for Business or Leisure.

For those who don’t live within a commutable distance to London, there is always the option to fly to Newcastle. The international airport is only 15 mins from the city centre with flights from London, Belfast, Paris, Amsterdam and Dubai daily, making Newcastle the go-to for accessibility.

When you speak to people from outside the North East about attending a conference in Newcastle they pull this face and 'ooooooh it's quite far' but it's within 3 hours of most major cities in the UK – I ask you how far is too far? For me, I'm happy to travel to other cities for work and I use it as a test to see if that destination would be the place for a staycation. Once I am there and it's easy to get around, it always gets added to the list. But distance is not a factor when the end destination is worth it and for me, Newcastle is always worth the visit for Business or Leisure.
