We are delighted to announce that after a rigorous application and audit process the Venues at Northumbria team have achieved a Gold Award from Green Tourism’s GreenCheck award scheme.
Green Tourism promotes greener ways for businesses and organisations to operate by offering members advice on areas such as energy and water use, efficient & eco-friendly waste disposal, ethical buying, staying local & seasonal, minimising food miles, promoting biodiversity, and adopting a smart, sustainable outlook from top to bottom.
Thinking about how we operate our conference and events offer at Northumbria University we were asked to demonstrate our response and processes toward a series of People, Place and Planet green objectives. Working with colleagues and partners across the university as well as drawing on the university’s commitment to optimising our contribution to UN Sustainable Development Goals we achieved an average score across the green objectives of 83% putting us in the Gold Award category.
Environmental and sustainability goals are key within the events sector and being able to demonstrate such a high Green Tourism score places Northumbria University as a leading green credential destination and enhances our global reputation as a conference and events host venue.
