Cycling in Newcastle

We have over 1,000 cycle parking space at the University.  Visit the sustainable campus map to view cycle parking locations on both campuses.

We also have a number of lockable cycle stores on campus.

Cycling in Newcastle

There are a number of dedicated cycle paths through the centre of Newcastle and through the large parks that connect the city together. 

​

Folding cycles are allowed on the Metro, further information is available on the Metro website.

Central Station

10 minutes

  • Head east on Neville St/A186

  • Turn left onto Grainger St

  • Turn right onto Market St

  • Turn left onto John Dobson St

  • Turn right onto Northumberland Rd

  • Turn right onto College St/B1309

  • Turn left onto Ellison Pl

  • Destination will be on the left

The Coast

1 Hour

Take the scenic rout and travel to campus from the beautiful Tyne and Wear coastline.

We have a number of showers on campus, so if you would like to freshen up or get changed before you're event, we have faculties to do so. 

Gateshead

12 minutes

  • Head east on Exeter St

  • Turn left towards Lincoln St

  • Turn right onto Lincoln St

  • Continue onto Granville St

  • Turn left onto the slip road

  • Continue straight

  • Go through 1 roundabout

  • At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Gateshead Hwy

  • Continue onto Tyne Bridge/A167

  • Continue to follow A167

  • Take the slip road to City Centre(South)/Walker/A186

  • Slight left onto Swan House Roundabout

  • Slight left onto Pilgrim St

  • Parts of this road may be closed at certain times or on certain days

  • Turn right onto New Bridge St W

  • Turn left onto John Dobson St

  • Turn right onto Northumberland Rd

  • Turn right onto College St/B1309

  • Turn left onto Ellison Pl

  • Destination will be on the left
